A quiet evening view of Court 4 at Harpenden Lawn Tennis Club, at the beginning of the grass season. The lawn is freshly cut and immaculate, the lines are drawn, and the net is set - yet the evenings are still too cool to stay on court for long.
The painting holds that moment of anticipation, when the grass season is beginning but has not quite arrived. I wanted to capture the feeling of returning to a familiar place, where each new season brings back memories of the ones before.
